.: Review of Reise Reise (Rammstein, 2004) :. -[ 6th of October, 2004 ]-
Reise, Reise (Travel, Travel)
Excellent track, as said by a lot of people, and very powerful. Excellent use of high pitch noises in the background, which create a suprizingly eerie feel to the song. Kind of like, a tired lonely traveller who has to keep going through good times and bad. I suppose that's what the title is pointing at. Repetition and emotions. Nice song.
Mein Teil (Mine part)
Nice track. At first I didn't like it too much, but it definatly grows on you, especially hearing it without ambient noises. Like all of Rammsteins songs, well most anyway, it gives a nice point of strength. Around the middle of the song, the lyrics take a different stance, and it's quite refreshing, keeps the song alive.
Dalai Lama (Dalai Lama)
Doesn't really stand out to me as one of their best, and seems more like a filler track. I'm quite happy to listen to it, but as I said, it doesn't particularly stand out. Has a quite mysterious tune to it for part of it at least. Not my favourite, but still is good though.
Keine Lust (No Desire)
From listening to the start of the song, it seems like the eternal fight of instinctive sexual impulses against religion. Quite a unique topic if I'm right. It's a nice, faster pased song after Dalai Lama, which is excellent. Great track to pick up the slack. Doesn't stand out to me as one of their better songs, yet again, however, it is a damn cool song and I won't object to anyone who plays it in my presence.
Los (Loosely)
Ahh, bring on the accoustics! Has a good beat, thanks to an excellent drum tune in this song. Accoustic guitar gives it quite a different sound from all other Rammstein songs, however it is still possessive of that unmistakable Rammstein feel. A nice song, even if it's purpose was just to be a CD filler.
Amerika (America)
One of the bigger songs on this record. Has a very catchy tune to it, and I still enjoy listening to it even after my brother played it for three days straight. I'm guessing the lyrics have something to do about globalization, with America being the forefront of such a movement. In which case, this song rocks for a political statement. Excellent song, and quite a nice display of vocal talents for the chorus. Gotta love the film clip too.
Moskau (Moscow)
Once again, Rammstein mix it up again by adding a female voice into one of their tracks. Such a lively, young voice may I add. Wouldn't mind seeing the face behind the voice, haha. A nice fast song with an excellent input by the female voice. I like it, I like it a lot. Definatly something you can headbang too, physically or mentally. In my opinion, an outstanding track from this great albumn.
Morgenstern (Tomorrow Star)
Starts with excellent vocals. Has a kind of start stop feel to it, which I'm a big fan of. You can picture a film clip with some kind of movement, pause, movement motion in it. As with a few of these songs, not their best work, but definatly worthy of a mention to any metal fan. Quite a nice track!
Stein Um Stein (Stone Around Stone)
Whilst not being as fast as Morgenstern, this song has a nice soft start, and a heavy chorus. All lyrics have been put into the "soft" mode, which is nice cruising music I think. Kind of like Reise, Reise in some respect, but the tune is definatly not as catchy. I still like the song quite a bit, and this is about the seventh time I've heard it in three days. Not the best track, but quite cool.
Ohne Dich (Without You)
Once again, somewhat of a softer tune against Rammstein classics such as Du Hast. Once again, I'm going by the sound of the song, and the english translation of the title, and saying it's definatly relationship based. It has all the makings of a classic love rock ballad, and even though that's not usually my kind of music, I enjoy this song a lot everytime I hear it. Good use of accoustics again too.
Amour (Armour)
Quite a haunting beggining, and sounds like a love song. As with Ohne Dich I'm going to say it sounds like they talk about their partner as being their protection, their "Armour". Lyrics are fairly fast, and I must say it's quite a touching song. The big chorus sent a shiver down my spine the first time I heard it, which is rarely something music is capable of for me. Excellent song, one of the standout tracks for sure.
Thanks to Babelfish for the translations of the titles. I don't know how correct they are. Thanks also to Rammstein, for producing such a stand out CD once again
